Elderly White Woman Gets 25 Years In Racially Charged Shooting
A racially Charged Shooting, got 60 year old Suan Lorincz, 25 Years in prison. Susan shot Ajike Owens, 35, outside her home in August. A Florida jury convicted her of manslaughter giving the elder woman a lengthy prison sentence. Ajike, aka AJ, lived in Ocala a small city 80 miles northwest of Orlando. She lost her life for knocking at a door while Black.
The Children Fueled The Fire
Lorincz and Owens had a few verbal exchanges in the past over AJ’s four children. Her children would often play near or close to, Ms. Lorincz property, and she didn’t like it. In this incident, Susan got annoyed, started shouting, and threw a roller skate at one of the children. She hit AJ’s eldest son in the head, which what is believed to have started the incident, between the two. Ms. Owens came with the intention of getting Ms. Lorincz straight by asking her to step outside.
But Ms. Lorincz didn’t come out, instead, she believed AJ was trying to break into her house. While Owens is bamming at her door, Susan pulls her .380 caliber handgun and shoots through the door striking AJike Owens in the chest. AJ was unresponsive and later pronounced dead at the hospital.
Many believed this case to be racially charged because Lorincz had previous issues with Owen[s children. Her ten year old son said “he felt bad for not being able to save his mother,” his grandmother, Ms. Diaz said. The fact that Susan chose to shoot through the door, and not even acknowledge her neighbor’s concerns leads to suspension of guilt . She was hollering self-defense, using the controversial, Stand Your Ground law. Florida and Georgia have some controversial cases involving the Stand Your Ground Law. But as we can see it didn’t work in Ms. Lorincz’s favor.
Conclusion
The Jury didn’t buy into the Stand Your Ground Law and gave Susan 25 years in prison. The fact that this elderly white woman felt threatened by a black woman knocking at her door leaves a lot of questions unanswered. Sheriffs, prosecutors, and others said “They didn’t find evidence of racial hatred, but white folks can be racists without spewing racial hatred. Many believe it was racially motivated, if it wasn’t, why would you be so frightened to the point you’re shooting through the door. Especially, if you are already familiar with your black neighbor and her children.
The fact that they are denying racism is ludacris, when most incidents involving, blacks and whites, are racially motivated. Susan is 60 years old. By the time she gets out of prison she will be 85 years old and an older elderly woman than she already is, if she survives prison. I think the Stand Your Ground Law has to be reexamined in most cases because people are using it with no merit or basis for its use.
AJ Owens lost her life over some senseless neighborly disputes that could have just been talked out. Knocking at white folks door while black can get you killed!
