Sensitive Ass Drake is Suing Kendrick over Spotify Streams

Spread the love

You may remember the battle between Drake and Kendrick a few months ago. The Drake vs. Kendrick Lamar beef had the world saying “Not Like Us.” It was crazy! Kendrick’s “Not Like Us” was bananas and had the internet going bezerk. “Not Like Us” was the summer anthem of the year for hip hoppers all across the world. As a result, Kendrick was asked to perform at Superbowl 58 in New Orleans, inciting a fury of comments from New Orleans own Hot Boyz aka Cash Money. Some people felt Lil Wayne should be the main attraction in hip hop since that’s his hometown.

Spotify UMG and Apple Music May Be Part of The Scheme

Kendrick versus Drake’s beef never really ended, people just moved on to the next thing, in hip hop. Since the summer ended and the damage was done new albums have dropped. Artist like LL Cool J, Ice Cube, Snoop and Dre have all released new albums and singles. Hip hop is moving in a new direction. The Kendrick and Drake beef will go down in the history books.

But it seems like Drake apparently is in his feelings and wanting justice for his lost. Drake is suing Kendrick Lamar, UMG (Universal Music Group), and Spotify over streams, payola, and A.I. bots to help “Not Like Us” have major success.

In a filing Monday (Nov. 25) in Manhattan court, Drake’s Frozen Moments LLC accuses UMG of launching an illegal “scheme” involving bots, payola and other methods to pump up Lamar’s song — a track that savagely attacked Drake amid an ongoing feud between the two stars.

UMG spokesperson sharply denied Drake’s allegations: “The suggestion that UMG would do anything to undermine any of its artists is offensive and untrue. We employ the highest ethical practices in our marketing and promotional campaigns. No amount of contrived and absurd legal arguments in this pre-action submission can mask the fact that fans choose the music they want to hear.” – Billboard

Apple’s alleged role in this is having Siri push listeners away from Drake to Kendrick when asked to play songs like “Certified Lover Boy” which has a peodphile reference towards Drake an intentional act on Apples part.

Drake Is Suing Kendrick and Clearly In His Feelings

Drake is clearly butt hurt and in his feelings cause he lost the battle. He’s suing Kendrick over a hip hop beef, which is unheard of, in hip hop. Him suing Lamar over inflated numbers is like suing McDonalds because they forgot to salt your fires, it never ever happens. In the pre lawsuit filing, Drake’s lawyers are arguing that Spotify was paid additional money to ensure the song was pushed out to their millions of subscribers. Influencers were also bought and paid to add value to the song. And Apple played a role by having Siri pick Kendrick’s song over Drake, which lead to Kendrick Lamar’s massive hit.

Hip Hop has never seen anything like this in its 50 year history. What if Drake wins? This could start a downward spiral in hip hop culture. Wil other artist sue over rap beefs? Drake suing Kendrick is a sucka move and really seems like some emotional bullshit, in my opinion.  The people chose what they wanted to hear and Drake wasn’t it. He’s had some stellar moments in hip hop but this time it wasn’t his turn. The Kendrick vs. Drake beef is more about technology than we really know. A.I. is becoming a serious problem in the music industry.

Conclusion

Hip hop has taken a strange turn over the years with these new aged artist. The male dominated nature in hip hop has seem to take a back seat. The alleged accusations against Universal, Spotify, and Apple to artificially inflate music and speaks to tech wars going on in music. No longer is it about skill and who like who but more about streams and likes. Likes and Streams dictate the outcome of our music culture. These artist nowadays are so emotional and not as talented as the Golden Era of Hip hop artist.

The likelihood that Drake wins his lawsuit remains to be seen. But the future of the music business could be in jeopardy as a result of it.
